Appeal against the determination of a grade
Consider carefully whether or not you want to submit an appeal. Please note that you cannot appeal against the new grade and that this grade will be the final grade of the examination in question. The new grade may be higher, lower or the same as the original grade.
- Download the appeal form from the blue box above.
- Complete and sign the form.
- Submit the form to your faculty. If you have completed your final year of study and already have receive your diploma, you must return the diploma together with your appeal.
- The decision will be sent to your student e-mail or by post within four weeks after the deadline for appeal. Any changes to the examination result will then be registered in Studentweb.
Oral and practical examinations
You may not appeal against the determination of grades awarded in connection with an oral or practical examination.
If the whole group wants to appeal, they may submit one form but it is important that the form includes the names, student ID numbers and signatures of all the appellants. The result of an appeal will only have consequences for the candidates who have submitted the appeal. This implies that not all members of a group have to submit an appeal.
The current deadline for appeal against the determination of a grade is
- Three weeks from the announcement of the examination result
- Three weeks from then you received the explanation for the grade, or the result of an appeal against procedural errors
What happens after I have submitted an appeal?
When an appeal has been submitted, there will be a new assessment of your answer paper. The new assessment will be carried out by at least two new examiners, whereof at least one is an external examiner. The examiners will not receive the original examination result.
The new grade may be higher, lower or the same as the original grade. You may not appeal against the new grade.
Appeal against procedural errors
Procedural errors may for instance include
- Errors in the examination question paper that may have affected the result
- Errors during the examination that may have affected the result
- Errors in connection with the assessment that may have affected the result
No forms are required in connection with appeal against procedural errors. You must submit a written description and explain what procedural errors you believe have affected your result. The appeal must be signed and submitted to your faculty.
The current deadline for appeal against procedural errors is
- three weeks after you are or should have been familiar with circumstances that form the basis for the appeal
- three weeks from when you received the explanation for the grade or the result of an appeal against the determination of a grade.
Your faculty will first process the appeal. If the faculty finds that the appeal should be rejected, the appeal will be forwarded to the Appeals Committee at HiOA.
Consequences of an appeal against procedural errors
The consequences of an appeal against procedural errors may be an annulment of the examination attempt. A new assessment of your answer paper will be carried out. It could also be that a new examination or test will be arranged.
